"There will be more judo fans after the Games in Ekaterinburg"

Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region Yevgeny Kuyvashev visited the 2021 World Judo Championships in Budapest, Hungary, and shared his opinions about the prospects of the discipline in the Sverdlovsk Region.


The governor was present at the tournament as a special guest and awarded judoka Yago Abuladze with a champion's gold medal (The athlete became the sixth Russian to achieve this title. The gold he won in Budapest is the first one in the last decade for Russia - note Ekat 2023).


After congratulating the winner, he pointed out that judo is a compulsory sport on the program of the 2023 FISU World University Games, which will be held in Ekaterinburg. The governor expressed his hope that popularity of judo in Russia will rise after the Games are over.
