The Games Park is an integral part of the World University Games and the main platform for getting townspeople and its guests into the spirit of the Games. During the Winter University Games in Krasnoyarsk, more than half a million people have visited the Games Park.

Catering concept for the 2023 FISU World University Games is being developed
On March 15 governor of the Sverdlovsk Region Evgeny Kuyvashev held a meeting with the heads of the Executive Directorate, government officials, and industry representatives. The main topic of the discussion was the catering concept for the participants and guests of the 2023 FISU World University Games.

- This is one of the main tasks in preparation for the World University Games. The quality of catering and how well it is organized will affect not only the general impression of the Universiade and our hospitality but may also impact the results that athletes can achieve. It goes without saying that we must do our best job organizing it. The catering concept should be designed with all client groups in mind, - said the governor.

Catering must answer to every requirement put forward by the FISU, which means safety and quality control are assured at every step. The supply of food must remain uninterrupted so that athletes and other participants can keep up with their regimen. Furthermore, certain special food needs must be accounted for, since people of many cultures and religions will be visiting Sverdlovsk Region during the games.

Notably, Ekaterinburg and Sverdlovsk Region have acquired experience in this field as they have already hosted several international events, such as matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

According to the general director of the Executive Directorate Alexander Chernov, the catering concept will account not just for the athletes and their attendants, but also for everyone involved with the games: from the press to the technical staff.

Cross-branch program for the development of student sports has been approved
Ministry of Sport, Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation have approved a cross-branch program for the development of student sports up to 2024.

The program identifies key directions and events aimed at developing sports and physical initiatives in educational institutions, higher education institutions, and student sports in Russian Federation as a whole. The main goal of the program is to create a socially and economically effective system of student sports by 2024.

During his talk with the Altai State University students earlier this year, Russian Minister of Sport Oleg Matytsin said: "It is necessary to create a legislative framework to make sport an integral part of education. We need to form a coherent legislative framework for student sports. The education system requires a program aimed at improving the material and technical capabilities of universities in order to help student sports clubs expanding the scope of their activities."

The FISU World University Games are an integral part of student sports in a sense that one of its main goals is talent development for participation in such grand international competitions. Being one of the largest sporting events in the world, the World University Games leave behind a highly developed sports infrastructure as a part of their legacy. This infrastructure then allows for the creation of specialized training and competition facilities.

Six test events before the World University Games will be held in Ekaterinburg in 2022
Holding test events before the 2023 FISU World University Games was one of the topics of the meeting of the regional organizing committee led by Evgeny Kuyvashev on February the 4th. First "pilot" events should be held in the capital of Ural next year.

- All sport, medical, transport, and other infrastructure for the World University Games should be ready within the current deadlines. Upholding all the required standards of epidemiological safety remains our top priority. There is still a lot of work to be done and not as much time as it may seem - said Evgeny Kuyvashev in his opening speech.

General Director of the Executive Directorate Alexander Chernov reminded everyone present that the sports program of the World University Games in Ekaterinburg will include 18 sports, with 246 medal events on the line.

- The directorate has planned a complex program of test events, the most important of which is the 2022 FISU University World Cup Combat Sports. Six events in six sports are planned for 2022. In 2023 we plan to hold 12 test events in 17 sports, including the simulation of the Games in 6 sports at the "Ekaterinburg - EXPO" convention center, - said Chernov.

Holding test competitions is an essential part of preparing for large sporting events. For example, this practice was used in preparing Ekaterinburg for the 2018 FIFA World Cup matches. "Pilot" events are necessary to test the readiness of the sport venues and specialists of the involved services.

Members of the committee headed by governor Evgeny Kuyvashev have also reviewed other aspects of preparations for the World University Games. Such as developing the sport infrastructure and working through the issues related to the transport services for the event. The work is well-organized and, according to the head of the region, it is very important to keep picking up the pace.

- We must do all in our power to make the World University Games in Ekaterinburg an absolute success. It should become an example for holding international sporting events, - the governor pointed out.

In Moscow the festival was also held on an ice rink, and what a venue it was! The highlight of the event was the gala-match between the "Red Stars" and the Student Hockey League (SHL) on the Red Square. Innovations and perspectives" exhibit. He and other guests took part in a virtual tour of the universal sporting facility, which is still under construction in the city of Kukmor, Republic of Tatarstan.

Year after year new technologies are getting more and more integrated into all aspects of life and society. We can easily assume, that organizing and holding large sporting events will not be possible without involving modern communication technologies. Countdown to the 2023 FISU World University Games begins in Ekaterinburg
On October 11th, 2020 the countdown clock to the opening of the World University Games in Ekaterinburg has begun its metaphorical ticking. The installation was unveiled precisely 1000 days before the event, on the Historic Square, at the very heart of the city.

General Director of the Executive Directorate Alexander Chernov said: "These thousand days are very symbolic. It is an opportunity to tell one another that we will not waste a single second".

Right until the presentation the clock's design has remained hidden by an art installation that was crafted by young Ural artists. On the day before the event, the First National channel has introduced the mascots of the university games to the nation. Deer Yaggi, malachite Hitty, and sable Kedry were present at the countdown ceremony. They were talking to and taking photos with the guests and residents of Ekaterinburg that have gathered for the ceremony.

"A legacy is being created for the townspeople and residents of the Sverdlovsk region. Its purpose is to boost the growth of education, physical culture, and sport", - said in his speech mayor of Ekaterinburg Alexander Vysokinsky.

The clock counting down to the opening of XXXII FISU World University Games is made in a style reminiscent of constructivism. It is shaped like the letter "U", an iconic part of the World University Games symbology. Furthermore, the clock consists of two screens that broadcast not only the countdown itself but also recent news pertaining to the preparations for the Games.
